Think on These Things From Scripture – Philippians 4:4-8

This post focuses on our mindset. We are admonished to think on these things from scripture: whatsoever is true, whatsoever is honest, whatsoever is just, whatsoever is pure and whatsoever is lovely. Often times our minds will stray away from such noble thoughts, forgetting to pray, rejoice and think on the best things in life. Today Mikki & I take just a few moments to read and reflect on what Philippians chapter four verses four through eight, means to us. Please join the conversation and enlighten us on what these verses mean to you.

The Greeting

Derek: Today’s date is Sunday April 26th. I’m Derek, and I am here with Mikki, my wonderful wife. Say hello! Mikki: Hello to you all! We’re going to be reading from Philippians chapter 4 verses 4 – 8.

The Scripture: Philippians 4:4-8

It says: Philippians 4:4-8 4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The Takeaway

Mikki: I’ve always loved these scriptures when I was younger. I believe this scripture highlights the type of temperament you are to have being a follower of Christ. To not be anxious and basically be of good spirit. For instance, verse 8 speaks about thinking on these things- good report, pure, lovely etc… Derek, what do you take from the scriptures today? Derek: I use this as a scripture to guide my mind. I find this scripture to be calming and it lets me know that I can always call on God. It lets me know He will grant me peace I can’t even understand. Also, Christ will guard my heart and my mind. Mikki: I think it’s important to know that we should come to God humbly, honoring him with reverence. What this passage also means to me, whatever blesses your soul and doesn’t curse you, that lifts you up in the spirit is what to think on.

The How

Derek: Definitely resonating with what blesses you and doesn’t curse you. Also, thinking and focusing on things that lift you up in the Spirit. This scripture helps me discern what I should or should not be ingesting. Now, when I watch television or listen to music, I think to myself, are these things true? Are these things honest? Are these things just? Are these things pure? Are these things lovely? You know? It’s a good scripture for me to help me guide my mind. Mikki: Wow! I agree. You had to go there! So true. The television can have such an effect on you. This is the same with the music. How many times have you listened to some cool, popular song or phrase that for the life of you, you cannot get out of your head? So we have to be protective of what our mind ‘thinks’ on. Just like the scripture says.

Conclusion

Derek: I agree wholeheartedly! So, thank you everyone for listening. We hope you enjoyed this and we hope it blesses you. Have a blessed day. Mikki: Amen! thedailybite.net

This is so sweet. I love what your website stands for and I love the way you write your post… as a conversation between you and Mikki… You surely hit the nail on the head, “resonating what blesses you and doesn’t curse you…” often we forget that we think on can have an effect on who we are, what we do and our outcomes. That is my takeaway from this post… I will be careful with what info I consume, in whatever form it comes. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
